Mikel Arteta Explains Why Liverpool Defeated Arsenal

1 month ago 4

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta expressed his disappointment at his team’s lack of precision in front of goal as they suffered a 2-1 defeat against Liverpool in a pre-season friendly on Wednesday, July 31.

The Reds secured their lead with goals from Mohamed Salah and Fabio Carvalho, while German international, Kai Havertz managed to pull one back for Arsenal.

Despite creating goal-scoring opportunities, the Gunners failed to capitalize on them, with Gabriel Jesus, Fabio Vieira, and Eddie Nketiah all squandering chances to level the game.

Speaking about his team’s missed opportunities, Arteta emphasized the importance of converting chances in the box and acknowledged that Arsenal need to improve in this area.

“When you’re in those spaces in the box [it is about] putting the ball in the net,” Arteta told reporters in the United States.

“We created the situations. We had two or three more big situations as well. We have to improve.”

Arsenal’s next pre-season game will be against Bayer Leverkusen at Emirates Stadium next Wednesday. Their first Premier League clash is against Wolves on August 17.

Due to their issue with converting goalscoring opportunities, they are reportedly aiming to sign a striker this summer including Napoli and Super Eagles of Nigeria forward Victor Osimhen.
