Former Chelsea midfielder Mikel Obi has urged the Blues to consider signing Viktor Gyökeres, a 26-year-old striker currently playing for Sporting Lisbon in Portugal.

Mikel Obi, who enjoyed a successful career at Chelsea, believes that Gyökeres possesses all the qualities needed to thrive in the Premier League.

Mikel highlighted the striker’s physical attributes, describing him as “big and strong,” qualities he deems essential for success in England’s top football division.

He emphasized that, in his opinion, Gyökeres is arguably one of the best strikers in Europe at this moment.

With the January transfer window approaching, there has been increasing speculation about Gyökeres potentially leaving Sporting Lisbon.

When discussing the prospect of Gyökeres adapting to Chelsea’s style of play, Mikel expressed his confidence during an appearance on The Obi One Podcast.

He stated, “Definitely. For me, he is a Premier League player. He is a player that suits the Premier League perfectly.”

Mikel went on to elaborate on the striker’s skill set, noting, “He has every attribute to be a Premier League player: he is strong, big, quick, and, most importantly, a proven goalscorer.”

Furthermore, he emphasized the striker’s impressive record, asserting that Gyökeres’s goalscoring statistics are among the best in Europe at the moment.

“When you look at it, his goalscoring ratio is better than any striker right now in Europe; the stats are there to back it up”, he added.
