The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, said on Thursday that military intelligence officers play a crucial role in advancing President Bola Tinubu’s agenda for national stability and poverty alleviation.

He stated that the President was determined to change the status quo and lift many Nigerians out of poverty, adding that addressing issues of insecurity was essential to achieving this goal.

The CDS, who was represented by the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, spoke at the closing ceremony of the Chief of Defence Intelligence’s annual conference and called on military intelligence officers to intensify efforts in the fight against insecurity.

He said, “As we know today, national security is all-encompassing, including not only traditional concepts of security but also other aspects such as human security, food security, and other economic development areas.

“These are the areas where the President is determined to change the status quo by lifting this country out of poverty and, by implication, lifting our sub-region out of poverty, which is one of the banes of our society.
We can only achieve this by relying on your input and contributions to shape policy direction and strategy for Mr. President.”

Speaking, the Chief of Defence Intelligence, Maj. Gen. Emmanuel Undiandeye, urged military officers to embrace collaboration, cooperation, and defence diplomacy to achieve the nation’s security objectives.

He said, “I want to urge you all to prioritise collaboration, cooperation, defence diplomacy, and strong mutually beneficial engagements to create more impactful outcomes towards the attainment of our national security and defence imperatives.

“I therefore encourage all the Defence Advisers and Attaches, as well as the officers in charge of our state cells, to carry the conference spirit with you as you return to your various defence sections and cells.”
