A mob has killed two suspected motorcycle snatchers and set one of the lifeless bodies ablaze in Misau Local Council of Bauchi State. The spokesperson for the Bauchi State Police Command, Ahmed Wakil, who confirmed the development in a statement, said the police in Misau received a report on August 18, 2024, at about 10:00 p.m. that a body was spotted lying down in a pool of blood in Anguwan Agwaluma, in the outskirts of Misau town.

According to him, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Misau led a team of detectives to the scene and discovered that the victim’s throat was cut with a knife.

“The detectives moved the victim’s body to the General Hospital, where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor. The victim was identified as Muhammad Mamuda Baba Jibir of Sabon Layi in Misau town, a 25-year-old commercial motorcyclist.

“His motorcycle, a Bajaj Boxer, was snatched and carted away by suspected armed robbers. His body was released to the family for burial in line with Islamic injunction,” he said.

Wakil stressed that 24 hours after the incident, the police arrested two suspects with the motorcycle along the Misau-Kari road. However, they were lynched by an angry mob who burned one of the bodies to ashes, but the bike was recovered.

Reacting to the development, the state’s Commissioner of Police, Auwal Musa Mohammed, frowned at the irate youths’ actions. He said: “They (mob) overpowered the police, took them out of the custody of the police and killed the suspects. This is barbaric and damaging to the laws governing our country.”

The commissioner warned residents of the state that the command under his stewardship would not tolerate the killing of suspects arrested by the police.
