Mohbad: Why Naira Marley, Sam Larry May Be Subpoenaed

Key witnesses in the ongoing inquest into the death of singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, may face subpoenas after their failure to appear in court.

The decision follows a request from Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, who sought the court’s intervention to ensure the witnesses’ attendance.

Magistrate T. A. Sotobi granted an application for substituted services, allowing witness summons to be served through a reputable national newspaper and social media.

The witnesses in question include Azeez Fashola, aka Naira Marley; Samson Eletu, aka Sam Larry; Mohbad’s sister-in-law Karimot Ogunbayo; Mohbad’s lawyer Oluwasanmi Falade; nurse Feyisayo Ogedengbe, who attended to Mohbad before his death; and driver Fidelis Esanbor, who transported the late singer to the hospital.

Taiwo Odumosu, head of the Aloba family’s legal team, confirmed to Punch on Wednesday that Boluwatife Adeyemo, aka Darosha, was the only key witness present at the court sitting.

Odumosu indicated that if the other witnesses failed to attend the next court session, the magistrate might issue subpoenas to compel their appearance.

“Today’s sitting was to continue with the examination of witnesses to know what happened to Mohbad and how he died. So, among all the key witnesses invited and served through substituted means, only Darosha was in court.

“Meanwhile, the magistrate said she would issue another witness summons one last time chance. She said if they fail to appear on the next adjourned date, they will be subpoenaed,” Odumosu stated.
