The first-class chief of Takum in Taraba State, Barr. Sopiya Ahmadu Gboshi III has called on the security agencies and government of Benue and Taraba states to step up security measures against killings in the state.

The monarch also called on the people of Takum to remain calm and exercise restraints from attacking fellow citizens against the backdrop of recent killings in the area.

Gboshi stated this in a statement signed by his Secretary, Danlami Garbuwa, in response to the killings of nine persons on Takum-Wukari and Takum-Jalingo Roads between August 11 and 12, 2024.

He noted with disdain, that the killings have been unwarranted and dastardly, suggesting a wicked and mischievous agenda of some evil people, which must be condemned by all.

The monarch also cautioned against any form of reprisal, noting that the security agencies, the government and stakeholders were working hard to unravel the identities of the perpetrators of the killings with a bid to bring them to book.

“I note with deep sadness the killing of 6 innocent travellers along the Takum-Wukari road in the morning of Monday, 12th August, 2024 and the killing of a business man and a farmer along the Takum-Jalingo road.

“These sad incidents are happening when the memory of the gruesome killing of the Third Class Chief of Chanchanji and his son is still fresh on the minds of the people in the area.

“I commend the Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas for the result oriented security measures being implemented in the area, I enjoin the government to scale up the operations and deployments of security agencies, as the attackers have become more daring, to counter them and ensure they are completely routed out,” the monarch charged.

He however, noted with pains, that the criminal activities are mostly perpetrated within and by criminal elements from neighbouring local government areas, especially from Katsina-Ala local government area of Benue State.
