A former governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, yesterday, called on security agencies to step up investigation and ensure that all illegal arms in circulation across the state are retrieved from unauthorised holders.

Oshiomhole spoke during the All Progressives Congress (APC) Oredo ward-to-ward campaign in Benin, stating that those carrying pump action rifles in the state are allegedly agents of the government.

Oshiomhole said:  “For us to have a free and fair election,  security agencies have to do their work and retrieve these arms and ensure people are free to come out and vote one man one vote on September 21 without being harassed.

“Already, we have information about people who went to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in Akoko-Edo, Orhiomwon, and other areas, who were harassed by these illegal arms carriers.”

Oshiomhole, who took a swipe at the deputy governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Osarodion Ogie, said that after 16 years in government without new ideas.
