Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho has praised Super Eagles striker David Okereke for becoming the first player to score against three different teams under his management following Gaziantep’s 3-1 loss on Monday, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The Nigerian forward netted a first-half equaliser at the Ulker Stadium Sukru Saracoglu, adding to his previous goals against Mourinho’s Roma while playing for Venezia and Cremonese in Serie A.
“I congratulate David Okereke. He is the first player to score against all three teams that I managed. He scored against my teams while playing for Venezia, Cremonese and Gaziantep,” Mourinho told TRT Spor after the match.
Despite Okereke’s historic strike which cancelled out Oguz Aydin’s early opener, Fenerbahce secured victory through second-half goals from Rodrigo Becao and Edin Dzeko.
The 27-year-old’s goal was his third in the Turkish Super Lig this season, continuing his knack of finding the net against teams managed by the Portuguese tactician.
Mourinho’s tactical adjustments after the break proved decisive in breaking down Gaziantep’s resistance, denying Okereke’s side what would have been a memorable point away from home.
The former Chelsea and Manchester United manager’s praise highlights Okereke’s growing reputation as a consistent goalscorer, having now made his mark against one of football’s most decorated coaches across three different clubs and two countries.
