Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has unveiled plans to establish a task force aimed at recovering government properties, both within and outside the state, believed to have been illegally acquired.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Mutfwang also warned individuals involved in the unauthorised sale of government assets that they would face severe consequences.
He directed those in illegal possession of such assets to voluntarily surrender them or risk government intervention.
“Let me declare that very soon, we will establish a task force to recover all government properties currently in illegal possession or occupation across the state and beyond.
“Anyone in possession of government property acquired illegally should surrender it now before we come for them. Equally, anyone involved in the unauthorized sale of government property will be uncovered and severely punished. It is only a matter of time before we catch up with such individuals,” the governor said.
Mutfwang further stated that individuals holding fraudulent Certificates of Occupancy would not be spared, emphasizing that justice would be served irrespective of the culprits’ status.
“We will investigate and deal decisively with those holding illegal C of O. A grace period will be given for voluntary surrender. However, if we have to come after you, the resources spent on the recovery process will not go in vain; you will bear the full cost,” he added.
The governor also disclosed plans to reorganize and strengthen the Jos Metropolitan Development Board to enhance its ability to maintain orderliness in building construction across the state.
This, he said, was necessary to restore proper urban planning and enforce compliance with statutory regulations.
