Minister of Works, David Umahi, has declared that his loyalty is firmly rooted in God and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stating that he takes instructions from no one else.
Speaking to journalists on Monday in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, Umahi made the remarks while reacting to a recent commendation by President Tinubu on his performance in infrastructure development. The minister described the President’s praise as deeply meaningful and spiritually affirming.
“The President’s commendation is worth more than one trillion dollars to me,” Umahi said. “It confirms I am on the right path and that God answers prayers.”
Reiterating his commitment, the former Ebonyi governor said: “I have told the President publicly that my loyalty is to God first, and then to him. When someone places this kind of trust in you, betraying that trust is not only wrong—it is devilish.”
Umahi, who is currently overseeing large-scale federal road projects across Nigeria, said the level of freedom and confidence the President has given him is unprecedented.
“Have you ever seen a situation where a man presides over a procurement of N1.6 trillion for just a section of a project, and his boss does not summon him to question the process?” he asked rhetorically. “That’s the kind of trust President Tinubu has shown.”
He added that anyone who repays such confidence with betrayal risks divine wrath.
“I pray every day that if I ever put myself, my family, or friends above God, President Tinubu, and the Nigerian people, may God not answer my prayers,” Umahi declared.
The minister further revealed that contractors handling critical infrastructure will now be under pressure to deliver on nearly 30 major projects slated for inauguration by December 20, 2025.
“I’m fully engaged in the construction and inspection of projects across all six geo-political zones,” he said, pledging continued prayers for Tinubu and those who support his administration’s vision for national development.
