The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Sen. George Akume, has disclosed that Nigeria is facing a multitude of security challenges that pose significant threats to the peace and stability of the nation.

Akume stated this during the official commissioning and handing over ceremony of a multi-million naira remodelled mobile police base in Kakuruk community  of Barki Ladi LGA to the Plateau State government by the National Hydroelectricity Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC)

Represented by the SGF’s chief of staff, Mr. Simeon Tyongu, Akume said the resilience and commitment of security forces, particularly the military and the police, had been instrumental in addressing these challenges and safeguarding the well-being of the citizens.

According to him, the renovation of the mobile police base is a proactive step taken by the government to enhance the operational efficiency of the police force and reinforce security measures in these areas that require urgent attention.

Managing Director National Hydroelectricity Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) Abubakar Sadiq said the deplorable condition of the police barracks in Kakuruk was distressingly evident following a comprehensive Needs Assessment conducted by the Federal Government through N-HYPPADEC.

According to him, it became imperative to renovate and upgrade the barracks to a mobile police base to provide a conducive living and working environment for the law enforcement officers, enabling them to carry out their duties effectively and ensuring the safety of the community.
