The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has denied the publications and claims that the agency has lifted ban on sachet alcoholic beverages.
Director-General (DG) of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, said this, yesterday, during a media briefing in Lagos.
She said that the ban was Minister of Health’s directive.
She said: “The ban on sachet alcohol is a ministerial directive and the ban still remains until the minister responds. The meeting last week Thursday was a continuation of the discussion.
“Soon after the enforcement of the ban after all parties had signed the agreement on the moratorium, the House Committee on Food and Drug Administration advised that the agency should suspend the ban.
“It was made known at the time, however, that the agency would have to await a decision by the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare on the matter since the agency was essentially enforcing a ministerial document.”
Adeyeye said that when the agency was again advised to suspend the ban, she responded by saying that it was a ministerial directive, and that she had not received any directive by the Coordinating Minister to suspend the ban.
