NAFDAC Warns Nigerians Against Using Recalled Nivea Deodorant

3 weeks ago 6

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a warning to Nigerians to avoid using the recently recalled Nivea Black & White Invisible Roll-on deodorant (50ml).

Naija News reports that this recall follows a similar alert from the European Union Rapid Alert System for Dangerous Non-Food Products.

In an official statement released on Thursday, NAFDAC identified the affected batch number as 93529610.

The agency highlighted concerns over the presence of 2-(4-tert-Butylbenzyl) propionaldehyde, a chemical banned in cosmetic products due to its potential health risks, including reproductive harm, risk to unborn children, and skin irritation or burns.

NAFDAC noted that the recalled product, which promises 48-hour protection, is manufactured in Germany and carries the Bar Code Number 42299882.

The agency urged importers, distributors, retailers, and consumers to be vigilant and ensure the specified batch of Nivea deodorant is neither sold nor used.

The recalled Nivea product is reported to contain 2-(4-tert-Butylbenzyl)
propionaldehyde, a chemical prohibited in cosmetic products due to its potential to cause harm to the reproductive system, impair the health of an unborn child, and cause skin irritation and burns to users.

“Members of the public in possession of the affected batch should cease sale or use and submit stock to the nearest NAFDAC office.

“Healthcare professionals and consumers are encouraged to report any adverse events experienced with the use of regulated products to the nearest NAFDAC office, via [email protected], E-reporting platforms available at www.nafdac.gov.ng, or through the Med-safety application available for download on Android and iOS,” the agency stated.
