NANS Issues 72-Hour Deadline To HYPPADEC Over Transformation Funding

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has issued a 72-hour ultimatum to HYPPADEC Nigeria regarding the delayed disbursement of starter packs under the Youth Transformation Programme (YTP).

This was stated in a letter signed by NANS deputy senate president Huzaifa Ibrahim Sabo, which was also sent to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), National Assembly (NASS), Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Department of State Services (DSS), Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission (ICPC), and the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

Launched in 2022 with the promise to support 5,079 youths biannually, the programme has yet to deliver the promised assistance, leaving numerous beneficiaries disillusioned and unsupported.

The students’ body said that despite repeated assurances from HYPPADEC Nigeria and the formation of various committees to address the disbursement issues, the promised support had not been provided.

“This ongoing delay has caused significant frustration among the trained youths who are still awaiting their starter packs.

“NANS, as the leading student body in Africa, is taking a firm stance in response to this situation. We are demanding that HYPPADEC Nigeria provide a definitive date for the disbursement of starter packs, whether through a pilot program or a full-scale distribution, within the next 72 hours.

“Should HYPPADEC Nigeria fail to meet this deadline, NANS will organize large-scale protests against the HYPPADEC headquarters, its branches, and relevant offices, including the SGF and the National Assembly.

“We also call for a thorough investigation by anti-corruption agencies into the management of HYPPADEC Nigeria due to this serious lapse.

“It is imperative that the relevant authorities act swiftly to address this issue and ensure the Youth Transformation Programme is implemented as promised. The future of many youths depends on the successful fulfillment of this programme, making it crucial for HYPPADEC Nigeria to resolve the matter promptly to avoid further escalation,” it added.
