The Nasarawa State Deputy Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Akabe has hailed  notable philanthropist Sonny Agassi for his contributions to the development of the state.

Akabe who noted that Agassi always found ways of giving back to his society congratulated him on the occasion of his 54 years on earth and thanked him for his humanitarian gestures to alleviate the sufferings of his people.

“I want to thank our brother for his humanitarian gesture. This, to me, is very sensitive, and it calls for emulation.

“He can’t give to everybody, but 100 is a large number that he is impacting on,” Akabe noted.

Dr. Akabe, who was the special guest of honour at the occasion, called on the beneficiaries to make proper use of the monies while urging them to extend the kind gesture to those who did not benefit.

Earlier, a former governor of the state, Senator Tanko Al-Makura, who was the father of the day, also commended Agassi for remembering his people by providing palliatives for them in the form of cash to alleviate their sufferings.

“Hon. Sonny, let me commend you for this large heartedness. For thinking about your community and giving back to them. Like Sonny has done, I want to urge us to give back to the communities that made us so that they will feel our impact.

“Everyone who has gotten the opportunity, no matter how small, should support their communities through palliatives’ distribution. It does not have to be big. I am throwing the challenge to all of us, including myself, that no matter how small, we should think of those who do not have,” Al-Makura challenged.

Arewa PUNCH reports that the high point of the occasion was the symbolic presentation of a dummy check of N10m to the disabled beneficiaries, while cultural dancers thrilled the audience.

Agassi, who remarked that he was moved to extend this gesture during his 54th birthday anniversary, said he was always moved by the plight of Persons Living With Disabilities in the state.

The Director General of the Nasarawa State Geographic Information Service earlier, while donating the sum of N10m which is to be shared among 100 Persons Living With Disabilities in the state made the donation at the in his country home, Agwede in the Obi Local Government Area of the state.

During the event, he explained that the beneficiaries of the empowerment program were carefully selected from the five electoral wards that make up the Jenkwe Development Area in the Obi LGA.

Prominent among those who attended the occasion were Akabe, Tanko Al-Makura; other notable politicians, and traditional rulers.

In his welcome address, the NAGIS DG expressed his gratitude for the opportunity given to him to serve at various capacities in the state and for clocking 54 years of age.

An elated Agassi pledged to continue to give back to the society and the state, saying that he had been doing well for his people and would continue to touch their lives positively.
