A mining sector expert has stated that the lead deposits in Nasarawa State have the potential to significantly boost Nigeria’s mining industry and economy.

The expert noted that the state’s estimated one million tonnes of lead reserves could greatly enhance Nigeria’s mining industry and overall economic growth.

A mining specialist and Co-Founder of Viral Nigeria Digital Marketing, Faisal Sanusi Ibrahim, discussed this potential in an exclusive interview with *The Guardian*.

He noted that Nasarawa State, located in Nigeria’s north-central region, is renowned for its rich mineral deposits, including lead, a soft, malleable metal used in various industries such as battery production, radiation shielding, and pigments.

He said: “In Nasarawa State, lead deposits are primarily found in the Keana and Awe local government areas. The lead deposits in these regions are associated with other minerals like zinc, copper, and silver, making them a significant source of revenue for the state and the country at large.

“The lead deposits in Nasarawa State are estimated to be over 1 million tons, with an average grade of 15% lead content. The deposits are mainly found in sedimentary rocks, such as limestone and dolomite, and are thought to have been formed through the precipitation of lead-rich fluids.

“The mining of lead in Nasarawa State is carried out by both artisanal and commercial miners. Artisanal miners use traditional methods to extract lead from shallow deposits, while commercial miners employ modern techniques, including open-pit mining and underground mining.

“The lead mined in Nasarawa State is used locally and exported to other countries, including China, the United States, and Europe. The revenue generated from lead exports contributes significantly to Nigeria’s economy and provides employment opportunities for thousands of people in the state.

“The lead deposits in Nasarawa State are a valuable resource that has the potential to boost Nigeria’s mining industry and economy. The state government’s efforts to develop the mining sector and attract investors have made Nasarawa State an attractive destination for mining companies.

“As the demand for lead continues to grow, the lead deposits in Nasarawa State are poised to play a significant role in meeting global demand.”
