In a monumental season for both player and franchise, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has been named the 2025 NBA Most Valuable Player, becoming the first Oklahoma City Thunder player to win the award since Kevin Durant in 2014.
The 26-year-old Canadian guard received 71 out of 100 first-place votes, finishing ahead of Denver Nuggets’ Nikola Jokić and Milwaukee Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo in the final count.
Gilgeous-Alexander averaged 31.6 points, 6.4 assists, and 5.9 rebounds per game, shooting an efficient 52.3% from the field and 39.1% from three-point range.

Beyond the stats, his poise and clutch play helped guide the young Thunder squad to a 56-26 record, securing the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference—their best finish in nearly a decade.
Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault praised Gilgeous-Alexander as the “heartbeat of this team,” while analysts have noted his evolution into one of the league’s most complete two-way guards.
The MVP nod caps a breakout year that saw him also named an All-Star starter and All-NBA First Team member.
