The newly elected chairman of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Uyo Akwa Ibom State branch, Engr. Emem Ezekiel, has unfolded his agenda, saying he is on a mission to reposition the profession along the path of ethical practice and the welfare of members in line with global standards.
Speaking after his inauguration as the 17th chairman of the 12- member executive committee held at the Emerald Event Centre, Edet Akpan Avenue, Uyo, the state capital, Engr. Ezekiel, said his vision for the NSE, hinges on excellence, inclusion and positive impacts on members.
He noted that since engineering as a profession has the power to transform lives and revolutionalise the world, “the NSE will support members to reach their full potentials by striving for excellence in everything from technical programmes to leadership reorientation.”
The NSE boss said his reforms plan aimed at “fostering a culture of inclusion, diversity and equity to ensure every member feels valued and empowered to contribute, while driving meaningful impacts through project delivery, advocacy, outreach programmes and stakeholders engagement in demonstrating the value of engineering to the society.”
While calling for unity of purpose amongst his colleagues to build the NSE to be reckoned with, Engr. Ezekiel promised to complete the NSE secretariat building project, embark on media advocacy, strengthening partnerships with industry operators, academia, government and other institutions to drive innovation and policy change.
Keynote speaker, Dr. Halimat Adediran, who spoke on the topic, “Engineering Investments and Development Prospects in the Aviation Industry”, described engineering as an all encompassing discipline that provides a platform for development and innovation.
She recalled that from evolution engineering has provided solutions to societal problems and would continue to do so by addressing the challenges of life, as aviation industry offers numerous engineering investment opportunities and development prospects including; aircraft design and manufacturing.
The outgoing chairman, Engr. Ukeme Okpop, felicitated his successor and new members of the committee, expressing optimism that the new administration would usher in an era of innovation, growth and service to the engineering profession.
He noted with excitement that, having worked with the new chairman before, he has no doubt that he would deploy his unwavering commitment, integrity and steadfastness to bring success and growth to bear on the Uyo branch.
