Newly Recruited NIS Personnel Lament Months Of Unpaid Salaries

Several new recruits of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) have voiced concerns over not receiving their salary arrears since joining the agency ten months ago.

According to appointment letters dated August 15, 2023, the recruits have not been paid for the period from September 2023 to February 2024, despite being registered on the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS), as reported by PUNCH.

The recruits started receiving salaries from March 2024 but noted that the arrears for the preceding months remain unpaid. They have called on the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, to address the issue.

One recruit from the Lagos Command shared with PUNCH, “We began induction training in Abuja from September to December 2023. Despite our appointment letters being dated August 15, 2023, salary payments only started from March 2024, leaving out payments for September to December 2023, and January and February 2024. We have not received salary arrears for these seven months.”

The NIS Public Relations Officer, Kenneth Udo, attributed the non-payment to an omission in the IPPIS.

“All Federal Government employees are registered on the IPPIS, where the issue arose. There were some omissions, but the service is actively following up. The service met with the IPPIS director last week; we are aware of the problem but are not responsible for the omission.

“We expect to resolve this by the end of the month, and the affected officers should receive their money. We are committed to rectifying the situation,” Udo explained.
