NFF To Appoint Interim Coach For Super Eagles, Eguavoen To Return

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is currently in the process of appointing an interim local coach for the Super Eagles.

This move comes as the national team prepares for the 2025 AFCON qualifiers scheduled for September. Recall that the Super Eagles have been without a coach since Finidi George stepped down from the role in June.

According to reports from OgaNla Media, the interim coach will be responsible for leading the team during the upcoming 2025 AFCON qualifiers in September.

There are reports that Janne Andersson will possibly take on the role; however, it seems that a permanent appointment may not be finalized before the crucial matches against Benin and Rwanda.

There are indications that Austin Eguavoen, the Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation, could step in to take charge of the team for the upcoming AFCON qualifying fixtures.

Given the proximity of the matches, it is deemed impractical for a new coach to take on such a responsibility.

Consequently, Eguavoen, who previously led the Super Eagles in an interim capacity during the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, could take charge of the team once again.

The Super Eagles are set to face Benin at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on September 7, followed by a match against Rwanda in Kigali three days later.
