The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission has distanced itself from reports of a purported ₦40 million mortgage pre-financing scheme involving HXAFRICA and the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria.

In a statement released on Friday, NiDCOM labelled the claims as false and fraudulent.

According to the disclaimer, signed by NiDCOM’s Director of Media, Public Relations, and Protocols, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, the commission clarified that any official announcement regarding a diaspora mortgage pre-financing scheme would be made in collaboration with the FMBN.

The agency further noted that while HXAFRICA had applied to join the proposed programme, it had not yet received any approval.

The commission warned the public against falling victim to the fraudulent claims and advised people to seek information only from the official websites and social media accounts of NiDCOM and the FMBN.

It read, “Disclaimer Re: ₦40 million Diaspora Mortgage Pre-financing By HXAFRICA and the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria.

“This is to warn members of the public that the above post is false and fraudulent.

“Any announcement on the diaspora mortgage pre-financing will be made by both the FMBN and NiDCOM on the websites and social media handles of both agencies.

“While the company has applied to be part of the proposed programme, it has not been granted any approval.”

NiDCOM, however, stated that it was concluding arrangements with the Central Bank of Nigeria to ensure the protection of potential beneficiaries of the scheme, further warning the public against falling victim to fraudsters.

“To ensure the protection of potential beneficiaries of the Diaspora mortgage scheme, both agencies are at the final stage of concluding arrangements with the CBN.

“Please beware of fraudsters and await genuine information only from the FMBN or NiDCOM, or both,” it cautioned.
