Niger State Government has said its agricultural policy is aimed at ensuring food security and sufficiency. The Special Adviser on Social Investment Program to the governor, Hauwa Bako, gave the assurance during her visit to Soilless Farm Labs in Ogun State to ensure successful implementation of agricultural policies in Niger.

According to the Special Adviser to the Governor on Digital Media and Strategy, Abdullberqy Usman Ebbo, the team of Commissioners and Special Advisers from Niger were in Ogun as one of the strategies to become one of Nigeria’s leading agricultural hubs, exploring innovative practices such as soilless farming to achieve the planned goal.

He disclosed that during the visit, the team inspected the state-of-the-art facilities, met with training participants, and held productive discussions with partners involved in the Enterprise for Youths in Agriculture through Technology-enabled Vegetable Production (EYIA) Project.

The team also paid a courtesy visit to former President Olusegun Obasanjo at his residence in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital where he applauded Governor Mohammed Umar Bago for his agricultural revolution policy to ensure food security is achieved in the country.

According to him, “until Nigeria begins to feed itself, the challenges facing the country will continue. A nation that cannot feed itself is sitting on a timing bomb.” while reiterating the crucial role of agricultural transformation for self- sufficiency in Nigeria.

Obasanjo further advised other governors to emulate Niger State’s lead in agricultural development to ensure the country is able to feed its population thereby exporting food to boost it GDP, while he encouraged Niger State government to sustained investment in agriculture
