Investigations concerning the death of a 70-year-old beggar in Niger State are currently ongoing by the Niger State Police Command. The man, identified as Buba, was found by the roadside.

Buba, believed to be a beggar, was found lifeless near the BCGA Bridge along the Kontagora-Zuru Road in Kontagora Local Government Area.

Reports from the community suggest that the 70-year-old, who was originally from Bangi in Magama LGA, had been seen begging at various junctions in the area. Some speculate that his death may have been caused by hunger.

Confirming the incident on Thursday, the Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, stated that Buba was found unconscious when officers arrived at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause of death.

“On 14/8/2024, at about 08:30 hrs, based on a report at A Div Kgora, a beggar aged about 70, whose identity is yet to be known, was found lying unconscious at Kwanar-Zuru bridge in Kgora.

Police operatives attached to A Div Kgora visited the scene.

The body was examined and no signs of violence were seen on the body, while the LGA social welfare officials were contacted and the body was removed to the general hospital where he was confirmed dead.
