The Youth Progressive Nigerlites Association has expressed delight with administration of Governor Muhammad Umaru Bago’s proactive measures and commitment to protecting the lives and property of citizenry during the #EndBadGovernance hunger nationwide protest.
In a statement issued in Minna to journalists by the association chairman, Haruna Ismaila Musa, he noted that the governor has demonstrated genuine interest in his people and his commitment to the oath he took to safeguard their well-being.
Ismaila explained that during the protests and crises, business owners and innocent people are often the most affected, as hoodlums exploit the situation to loot and steal from citizens seeking their daily livelihood, adding that due to the government’s proactive stance, these criminal elements were unable to operate, and business owners and residents, initially hesitant to open their shops due to safety concerns, soon realized Niger was secure and resumed their regular activities.
He said before the protests, the Niger State Government implemented several measures to alleviate the hardships faced by Nigerlites. Notable initiatives included the sale of food items from the state’s food reserve at subsidized prices, providing significant relief during a challenging period and highlighting the government’s dedication to its citizens’ well-being, particularly the most vulnerable.
Haruna also added that government’s engagement in statewide public consultations through a widely attended town hall meeting demonstrated its willingness to listen to its people’s concerns, pointing out that the open-door policy fostered inclusivity and transparency, enabling citizens to actively participate in the decision-making process.
He said: “Government’s recent announcement of a wage award for civil servants, payment of long-awaited leave grants, and payment of gratuities to retirees has been met with widespread appreciation. These gestures underscore the administration’s commitment to recognising the hard work and dedication of its public servants and ensuring their financial security.”
He however urged the governor to ensure proper monitoring and evaluation of the numerous ongoing road constructions and other projects in the state.
