A former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, has accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of exacerbating Nigeria’s economic challenges.
During an appearance on Channels Television’s programme, Politics Today, on Tuesday, Ezekwesili asserted that Nigeria is buckling under a heavy debt burden.
The co-founder of the #BringBackOurGirls movement emphasized that all signs indicate that Tinubu’s performance over the past year has been far from satisfactory.
She said, “I used the indicators. I always say that in God, I trust, and every other person must come with their data. All data and the economic indicators show clearly that the Tinubu administration hasn’t done a good job in the last one year.
“The Tinubu administration has worsened the economy. If you are a Nigerian, you should be vexed with this government. All that we have seen since this government came into office has been physical, profligacy they have been.
“I cried when I heard what Nigerians are going through and to see the political class of this country be totally reckless with scarce public resources. A country that is highly leveraged, we have been leveraged means that we are bothering with debts. We are crumbling under the weight of debts.”
Ezekwesili expressed her disappointment, stating that the All Progressives Congress-led administration could have avoided the “economic recklessness we are witnessing.”
The former minister also attributed these outcomes to the actions of the political class during the 2023 elections.
She further noted that it was evident Nigeria would face this difficult period due to the events that transpired during the election.
”There was nothing credible about the 2023 presidential elections and the outcomes that followed. It was very clear that the concept of snatching it, grabbing it, running with it was going to haunt us, she added.
