Nigeria’s Victor Olatunji Reflects On His UCL Debut Goal For Sparta Prague

Nigerian forward, Victor Olatunji, has spoken highly of his outstanding performance in Sparta Prague’s impressive 3-0 victory over Salzburg in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, September 18, 2024.

Victor Olatunji not only scored a goal but also provided an assist during the match, marking a historic moment as the first Nigerian to achieve this feat on his UEFA Champions League debut.

Additionally, Olatunji became the third African player to accomplish this remarkable milestone.

After scoring his goal in the 42nd minute of the encounter, Olatunji decided to celebrate it by hitting the Siuuuuu celebration made popular by Cristiano Ronaldo. Afterward, the 25-year-old striker raised his jersey to reveal the white shirt he wore underneath, on which he wrote, “I Am Chosen. Who Are You?”

In an interview with UEFA’s official website, Victor Olatunji expressed his elation, saying, “I feel good, I feel great, and I’m very happy for myself because I worked hard to get to this point. I’m also happy for the team.”

Olatunji also took time to reflect on his goal and assist, emphasizing his determination to contribute more to the team’s success.

“I just wanted to put the ball in the back of the net. It was my only dream for tonight. We always play like a team – I enjoyed it,” he said.

Regarding the assist, he added, “For the third goal, I could have shot, but I wanted to give us a bigger chance [of scoring] because missing that chance would not have been good for the team.”
