The PUNCH: Domestic crude oil refiners and officials at the Dangote Petroleum Refinery have kicked against the commencement of the importation of Premium Motor Spirit, popularly called petrol, by major oil marketers in Nigeria. Oil refiners alleged that some imported fuels were of low quality when compared with the ones produced by the Dangote refinery, a position that was reiterated by officials of the $20bn Lekki-based plant.


Vanguard: One day into the Edo State governorship election, the three major political parties — Labour Party, LP; Peoples Democratic Party, PDP; and All Progressives Congress, APC, the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, and former President Goodluck Jonathan have tasked the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and security agencies on credible balloting.


The Nation: The Federal Government no longer depends on the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to fund its emerging obligations, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, said yesterday. He attributed the feat to fruits being yielded by ongoing efforts to improve efficiency and ramp up revenues.


Daily Trust: The decision by Borno State to shut down relief camps for people displaced by the devastating floods that ravaged Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC) and Jere Local Government Area (LGA) has thrown some families into confusion. Some survivors of the flood taking refuge inside the camps said the state government’s decision will push them into deeper crises, because their houses are inhabitable, with nowhere to go.
