At least nine people have lost their lives, and four others sustained injuries in a deadly clash between villagers and Fulani settlers in Jigawa State, as confirmed by the state police command.

Naija News gathered that the violence erupted when a group of individuals, believed to be Fulani, allegedly broke into a shop in Gululu village, located in Miga Local Government Area, and stole hibiscus along with other items.

In retaliation, villagers traced the suspects’ tracks to a Fulani settlement in Yankunama village, within the jurisdiction of Jahun Local Government Area.

Upon arrival, they were confronted with an armed attack by Fulani settlers wielding bows and arrows, leading to injuries to four villagers.

The situation escalated when the villagers mobilized and set Fulani houses ablaze at various locations within Miga and Jahun LGAs,” said DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, the Police Public Relations Officer for Jigawa State.

Police units from both Miga and Jahun Divisions were deployed to the area to quell the violence.

Upon receipt of the report, our officers rushed to the scene. Unfortunately, nine bodies were recovered.

“The corpses were taken to hospitals in Jahun and Miga, where they were confirmed dead by medical personnel,” DSP Adam said.

The Commissioner of Police, CP AT Abdullahi, visited the affected areas, accompanied by senior officers, including the Area Commander of Dutse and the Assistant Commissioner of Police for Operations.

Local government chairmen, district heads, and Miyetti Allah representatives met to discuss strategies to prevent further violence.

Our focus now is on maintaining law and order. We are working closely with community leaders to avoid reprisal attacks and ensure the safety of all residents,” CP Abdullahi said during the meeting.

In response to the unrest, security patrols have been increased across the affected regions to prevent any further disruptions.

We have restored calm and continue to investigate the incident thoroughly to ensure those responsible face justice,” DSP Adam concluded.
