Nine Nigerian Athletes Debuting At 2024 Olympics

Team Nigeria will travel to Paris for the 2024 Olympics with nine top athletes who will be representing the country at the sports festival for the first time in their respective careers.

Note that the 2024 Olympics which will take place across France, starting from the country’s capital city, Paris, will kick off on July 26 and end on August 11.

Below are the top Nigerian athletes who will be making their debuts at the 2024 Olympics:

1. Favour Ofili

Favour Ofili ought to have represented Nigeria at the 2020 Olympics but she was declared ineligible because she wasn’t tested regularly enough before the tournament. The 21-year-old athlete will represent Nigeria at the 2024 Olympics in the 100m, 200m, 400m, and 100×100 relay.

2. Ruth Usoro

Just like Ofili, Ruth Usoro was supposed to make her debut at the Olympics in 2020 but she was part of the ten Nigerian athletes who were declared ineligible due to irregular testing. The 26-year-old athlete will represent Nigeria at the 2024 Olympics in the Long Jump, and Triple Jump events.

3. Chidi Okezie

Chidi Okezie will finally have the chance to represent Nigeria at the Olympics after failing to do so in the 2020 edition due to a lack of regular testing. The 30-year-old star will compete in the 400m and 400x400m relay.

4. Chioma Onyekwere

39-year-old Chioma Onyekwere will represent Nigeria at the 2024 Olympics for the first time in her career. She will do battle in the Discus Throw event.

5. Chukwuma Rosemary

The 22-year-old Chukwuma Rosemary will represent Nigeria in the 100m, 200m, 100×100 relay.

6. Ashley Anumba

The 25-year-old Ashley Anumba will represent Nigeria in Discus.

7. Tima Godbless

The 20-year-old Tima Godbless will battle for gold in the 100m, 200m, 100x100m relay.

8. Prestina Ochonogor

18-year-old Prestina Ochonogor will represent Nigeria at the 2024 Olympics in the Long Jump Event. She is the youngest member of Team Nigeria.

9. Dolapo Omole

Dolapo Omole will represent Nigeria in the boxing event alongside two other boxers. The 25-year-old boxer is currently the Nigerian champion and 2023 African Games gold medalist in the men’s 57k category.
