NIS, APPSN swear in new excos

The executives of the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors and the Association of Private Practicing Surveyors of Nigeria, Ogun State Chapter, have sworn in new members.

The new executives were charged with maintaining the exemplary records set by the outgoing executives and striving to surpass them.

This charge was given by the President of the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors, Dr Mathew Ibitoye, during the investiture of chairmen and swearing-in of the executives of NIS and APPSN, held in Abeokuta.

He said that their leadership style would shape the future of the profession.

He said, “The outgoing executives should remember that your journey is not over, there is still space for you to contribute to our institution’s future endeavours  you are simply taking a well-deserved break, as greater tasks await you.”

He commended the state branch for electing the new executives without any rancour and the organising committee for putting together the befitting programme and making it a remarkable success.

In his welcome address, the outgone chairman, Ademola Adebowale, appreciated the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Oludaisi Elemide, and his members for the courageous actions taken to enforce the anti-land grabbing law in the state, especially in Agboro Village.

He lauded his executive for their cooperation and support throughout their tenure, urging the new executive to continue working in harmony to achieve set goals.

In his keynote address, the Dean of the Faculty of Law, OAU, Ile-Ife, Professor Adewole Adedeji, stated that the outgone executive performed well.

He said, “Going by the information at my disposal, through the tremendous achievements being recorded so far to include, procurement of digital survey equipment benefited by the members, establishment of QRS station, construction of a multi-million naira hall built by the institution, which is almost in the completion stage, and purchase of 60kva generating set for the institutions’ secretariat, among other achievements.

“The institution should continue to maintain a good relationship with the State government and its agencies to ensure that things go smoothly in the state, urging the new executive to sustain the tempo.”

Earlier, the State Deputy Governor, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, stated that surveyors played a key role in shaping the environment, adding that development was well-planned, safe, and sustainable with the efforts of the noble profession.

Oyedele emphasised the major role of the surveyor in infrastructural development in the state, adding that there was a need for collaboration among other professionals, to foster cordial relationships to achieve inclusive and sustainable development.

According to the deputy governor, surveyors should continue to maintain accuracy, trust, and accountability, which are the most valuable resources of any country.

In his acceptance speech, the new Chairman of NIS, Ogun State Chapter, Abiodun Liadi, expressed gratitude to the institutions for the trust and confidence reposed in him.

He stated that members’ support and endorsement were testaments to the unity, love, and strength of the profession.

He acknowledged the tireless efforts and contributions to the growth and development of the institution, adding that their legacies serve as a foundation upon, which the new executives would build.

Also, the new Chairman of APPSN, Adekoya Samuel, confirmed that the association was able to achieve 90 per cent of set goals while many other innovations were introduced into the activities of APPSN in the state.
