The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) on Friday confirmed that a technical glitch has affected its online payment platform for passport applications.
In a public notice posted on its X account, the agency expressed regret for the disruption and assured the public that efforts were underway to restore the service as quickly as possible.
The NIS, in the notice was titled “Technical Hitches with Online Payment Platform,” said:“We apologise for the downtime being experienced with online applications on our Passport Service windows.
“The Service is assuring the public that within the shortest possible time, seamless service will be restored. All inconveniences this may have caused are highly regretted. Please bear with us.”
This technical issue comes shortly after the Federal Government approved an increase in passport fees, effective from September 1, 2024. The revised rates will see the cost of a 32-page passport with five-year validity rise from N35,000 to N50,000, while the 64-page passport with 10-year validity will increase from N70,000 to N100,000.
The fee adjustment was announced in a statement issued by the NIS spokesperson, Kenneth Udo, earlier this week.
