NJC recommends Kekere-Ekun as CJN, 28 other judges

National Judicial Council (NJC) has nominated Justice Kudirat Motonmori Kekere-Ekun as the new Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) along with 28 others as judges of various courts.

This was disclosed in a statement, yesterday, by the NJC director of information after its 106th council meeting held between August 14 and 15, under the leadership of the outgoing Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola.

The statement noted that the council recommended Justice Kekere-Ekun to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointment as the next Chief Justice of Nigeria. The NJC also put forward the names of 28 candidates for appointment as judges in various state courts and one candidate for appointment as the Kadi of the Sharia Court of the FCT, Abuja.

The recommendations, according to the statement, have been submitted to the President and governors of the respective states for approval. The council recommended six judges for the High Court of Kwara State. They are Olawoyin Ibijoke Olabisi, Abdulrazaq Fatimah Funsho, Oba Muritala, Dikko Yusuf Adebayo, Oluwatosin Adenike, and Osuolale-Ajayi Temitope Olalekan.

There was one judge for the High Court of Kaduna State, Zubairu Murtala Ja’afaru. Benue has four judges for its High Court, namely Kor Vincent Tersoo, Ikwulono Maigida Maimuna, Adagba Nguhemen Julie, and Tor Damian Tersugh.

Two judges were recommended for the Customary Court of Appeal, Benue State. They are Onche Ogah Inalegwu and Igba Theophilus Terhile. The High Court of Rivers State has eight judges: Onyiri Frank, Ugoji Victor Chinedum, Obomanu Godswill Vidal, Oguguo, Rita Chituru, Fubara Alatuwo Elkanah, Kokpan Bariyima Sylvester, Obu Ibietela Innocent Madighi and Wifa-Adedipe, Lesi.

Six judges were recommended for the High Court of Ondo State. They are Daomi Williams Adebisi; Fabuluje Adewumi William; Ogunwumiju Mobayonle Idowu; Demehin-Ogunbayo, Inumidun Happiness; lkpemi Ojufisintei Justinah and Adegoroye Olufunke Adeola. In the list are one Kadi for the Sharia Court of Appeal, FCT, Abuja, Muhammad Lawal Munir.The recommended candidates are expected to be sworn in following the approval of the recommendations.
