Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has said the North West faces an existential threat due to activities of bandits and terrorists.

Senator Uba Sani said there was no luxury of time to waste, stating that urgent security measures must be activated to save the region from conflict and insecurity.

Governor Uba suggested an immediate establishment of a Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJT) theatre command in the North West to help secure the region.

The Kaduna State governor said this on Monday while declaring open Policymakers Technical Session on the North West Peace and Security Development Framework for Commissioners of Security of the North West.

The meeting held in Bafra Hotel, Kaduna was conveyed to review the report of the Inaugural North West Peace and Security Summit and outline the considerations needed in developing a North West Peace and Security Development Framework Roadmap.

The framework seeks to foster synergy and a collaborative approach, promote regional stability, economic prosperity, and social advancement, and broaden the developmental perspective to address the root causes of conflict and insecurity confronting the region,” Uba said.

He called on “the Commissioners of Security to give their best shots to the meeting because it is pivotal to charting the path to the restoration of peace and security in the North West Zone. We don’t have the luxury of time. The North West Zone faces an existential threat.”

To assist our Commissioners of Security in developing a clear and realistic roadmap, I proposed the adoption of a multidimensional approach to security management, establishment of a North West Theater Command, extension of Multinational Joint Task Force to cover international borders, implementation of socioeconomic interventions, formation of Standing Security Committees, development and implementation of viable non – kinetic programmes on deradicalization, rehabilitation and transitional justice, launching of a massive campaign for ethical reorientation, and unifying our people and mobilizing them to collectively tackle the myriad developmental and security challenges facing the zone,” Uba said, in a statement, published on his X handle on Tuesday.

He further called for stimulating investment in the region, developing agriculture and expanding rural infrastructure as ways of combating insecurity in the region.

“Additionally, along with amplifying support to our security forces as a region, and enhancing our localized intelligence systems, we must collectively pursue other essential steps like stimulating investment, developing agriculture and agri-business, expanding rural infrastructure, broadening access to education and healthcare, and most importantly, nurturing engagement and promoting a sense of inclusion among all our citizens,” Governor Uba stated.
