Northeast leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP have thrown their support behind the recent decision by the Party’s Governors Forum over the ongoing national leadership crisis.
DAILY POST recalls that governors elected under the Peoples Democratic Party yesterday annulled the suspensions of some National Working Committee members and restored the status quo to when the acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum led a unified NWC.
Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed who doubles as the Chairman of the Forum, stated that there was no longer a faction within the PDP National Working Committee, noting that operations had returned to normal under Damagum until the governors and other party bodies meet to address all outstanding issues.
Speaking on the development after its meeting in Bauchi, on Wednesday, the Zonal Working Committee and States Chairman expressed confidence that the move will help stabilize the party and strengthen its future.
In a communiqué issued after the meeting, the leaders also commended the PDP governors for their infrastructural developmental efforts and reaffirmed the party’s role as a beacon of hope for addressing Nigeria’s current challenges.
Presenting the communique to journalists at the Zonal office of the party in Bauchi, the Chairman of the Gombe State PDP, Tahir Shehu noted that the meeting which was well attended, deliberated extensively on how to move the party forward.
“As regards the National Chairmanship tussle, the meeting wishes to align itself with the position of the governors, the BOT, National Assembly Caucus and all the Major critical stakeholders in the zone”, the Communique disclosed.
The Northeast Zonal Leaders of the PDP expressed optimism that the decision will bring decorum and sanity that will lead the party to lofty heights.
Tahir Shehu added that the meeting also reflected on the 16 years of the party at the helm of affairs as a ruling party and how it lost out to the All Progressive Congress (APC) in 2015.
The communiqué noted that the All Progressives Congress, APC administration has caused severe hardship for many Nigerians, expressing regret that, despite this suffering, no proactive steps are being taken to address the situation.
Asserting that the PDP remains the last hope for Nigerians, the meeting stated that only the PDP can provide the solutions needed to tackle the country’s current challenges.
The Northeast Zonal PDP also highlighted that, since the establishment of democratic rule in 1999, the party has maintained a strong presence in the region, producing a former Vice President, as well as current and past governors and National Chairmen.
The communiqué also passed a vote of confidence in the Governors of Adamawa, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri; Bauchi, Bala Mohammed; and Taraba, Agbu Kefas, commending their performance and encouraging them to continue delivering the benefits of democracy to the people of the region and Nigeria as a whole.
