The Chairman of the Northern States Governors’ Forum and Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Yahaya, has lamented the damaging floods in Borno.

This is as he extended his sympathy to the government and people of Borno State over the devastating flooding that has affected Maiduguri, its environs, and parts of Jere Local Government Area.

Our correspondent reports that the tragedy caused by the overflow of the Alau Dam has submerged significant portions of Maiduguri, including key infrastructure and several residential areas, displacing thousands of people and causing untold hardship.

Yahaya, on behalf of the 19 northern governors, through a press statement signed by Ismaila Misilli, Director-General of Press Affairs at Gombe Government House, extended assurances of solidarity and support to Governor Babagana Zulum and the people of Borno State, particularly those affected by the flooding.

He also expressed concern for other states in the North and across Nigeria facing similar flooding incidents, urging the Federal Government and humanitarian organisations to bolster their relief efforts.

The governor commended the swift response of the Borno State Government and the efforts of emergency responders and other volunteers on the ground.

However, given the scale of destruction, the NSGF Chairman prayed for the protection and well-being of all affected communities, “trusting that with collective action, the people will overcome this challenge and rebuild stronger. The National Emergency Management Agency and other relevant agencies must intensify their interventions to provide relief to affected residents, particularly women, children, and vulnerable groups,” Yahaya said.
