Nothing Short Of A Disaster If Super Eagles Don’t Play In 2026 World Cup – Sunday Oliseh

Former Super Eagles head coach, Sunday Oliseh, has expressed his concern regarding the current performance of the Nigerian national football team in the qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Sunday Oliseh emphasized that it would be a significant setback for the country if the Super Eagles failed to secure a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

As it stands, the Super Eagles of Nigeria have struggled throughout the qualification process, failing to record a single victory in their first four matches. This has left them languishing in the group standings, currently sitting second from bottom in Group C with only three points to show for their efforts.

Oliseh lamented over the emotional toll that missing out on the World Cup would have, especially after Nigeria’s absence in the last tournament held in Qatar.

“It would be agonizing for fans and players alike if Nigeria were to miss out again, particularly when Africa has the potential to be represented by as many as ten nations in the upcoming World Cup. To not be among them would be nothing short of a disaster”, Oliseh remarked during an interview with Supersport TV.

He also reflected on his experiences during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where he spent six weeks as part of the FIFA study group.

“It was a deeply painful experience to watch the tournament unfold without Nigeria’s presence”, he noted.

Looking ahead, the Super Eagles are scheduled to face Rwanda in what is expected to be a crucial match in the qualifiers in March 2025. The stakes are high, and the pressure is mounting for the team to turn their fortunes around and reclaim their place on the world stage.
