NPFL Mandates All Nigeria’s Elite Clubs To Run Functional Website

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) board has urged all the top-flight clubs to operate a functional website within the next month.

This decision was a key outcome of a summit for NPFL clubs’ media directors held in Makurdi, Benue State, earlier this week.

During the summit, NPFL Chief Operating Officer Davidson Owumi emphasized the importance of digital presence and informed the club media directors that formal communication would be sent to clubs without websites, instructing them to establish their online presence within one month.

A statement on the official NPFL website said this development will help to enhance fans’ engagement and create new revenue streams by leveraging digital platforms.

The statement reads: “At an interactive session with the club media directors, the NPFL Chief Operating Officer, Davidson Owumi informed the participants that a letter would be written to clubs that are yet to set up websites to do so within one month.

“Owumi also advised the media officers to invest in personal development to improve their skillset and contribute qualitatively to the development of their club’s engagement with their fans and communities.”

The summit featured insightful presentations from industry experts, including NPFL Director of Media, Harry Iwuala, who shared strategies for effective club media management.

Multimedia journalist Andrew Randa discussed using multimedia tools to elevate the role of club media. Furthermore, NPFL Head of Legal and Compliance, Uche Egbe, provided a detailed explanation of the codes and regulations that govern the conduct of club officers.

Note that the 2024-2025 NPFL campaign will officially commence on August 31 with a league game between the reigning champions Enugu Rangers and Federation Cup winners El-Kanemi Warriors.
