President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation, Daniel Igali, will not seek re-election when his tenure expires in 2025, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
“I am not contesting for Presidency of the Wrestling Federation. This is my final term as president.” Daniel Igali told journalists at the 2024 National Youth Games.
“I served as Federation President for 12 years, and I was not given 50 Kobo all through the 12 years,” said Igali, who won Canada’s first ever Olympic gold medal in wrestling at the 2000 Summer Olympics and remains Canada’s only male Olympic gold medallist in wrestling.
Meanwhile, youngsters made waves at the 8th edition of the National Youth Games on Thursday as the event reached a climax on Thursday.
Chioma Emma-Ibegwu clinched a gold medal for Team Anambra in Chess, winning the female classical category on Board 1 to emerge as the overall winner in her category.
She was the standout player in her event, securing an impressive 9 over 9 clear-out victory to win the main event at the National Youth Games in Asaba.
Kaduna State became Beach Volleyball Champions after an enthralling final in the girls beach volleyball. Kaduna State saw off Anambra State in a hard-fought game, winning the match 2-1 (22-20, 19-21, 15-8) to clinch the gold medal.
Anambra settled for silver, while Team FCT won the bronze medal match.
Cross River State finished the shooting event, winning three medals in different categories. Augustine Ellah won the gold medal in the boys rifle, while Esther Edim and Rejoice Agbor won silver medals each in the girls rifle and pistol, respectively.
