The deputy spokesperson of the House of Representatives, Philip Agbese, has said that the 10th National Assembly maintains the highest level of accountability and transparency.

He stated this on Sunday while reacting to former president Olusegun Obasanjo’s claim that members of the National Assembly determine their salaries and allowances.

Agbese insisted that the present lawmakers are different from the one in the era of Obasanjo.

Obasanjo had on Friday claimed that members of the National Assembly determine their salaries and allowances, a situation he described as immoral.

However, Agbese denied the claim, arguing that the legislators are accountable and transparent.

Speaking via a statement, he said, “The former president is always right and wrong because the 10th House of Representatives is totally different from his era.

“I am bold to say that the very respected former president is right and wrong because of the things that transpired between him and the National Assembly during his time as president.

“Stories abound that he was helpless. This is no longer the case, as quite a lot has been done by the current crop of representatives to deliver to the poor masses.”
