The Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has charged the state-sponsored women’s team and Nigeria Women Football League Champions, Edo Queens, to pick the WAFU B CAF Women’s Champions League ticket, as they continue their quest in their second group match against Ghana’s Hasaacas on Wednesday (today) in Ivory Coast.
Edo Queens began their campaign in the regional qualifiers on Sunday with a resounding 5-0 win over A.O Etincelle of Burkina Faso.
The NWFL champions will hope to continue their winning momentum when they take on Ghanaian champions and book an early slot in the semi-finals.
“The team has continued to give an excellent account of themselves as Nigerian champions with their exceptional performance and dominance on the field of play, thrashing their rivals 5-0 in the opening match of the tournament,” Obaseki said in a statement.
“As you continue on this impressive run, we assure you of our relentless support and are confident in your ability to clinch the ticket to the CAF Women’s Champions League proper which comes up later in Cairo, Egypt.”
The NWFL champions currently lead the group with three points, while Hasaacas are second after they were held to a 0-0 draw in their first game.
The winner of the competition will pick the only slot for WAFU B at the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League.
Edo Queens are aiming to become the third Nigerian team to feature in the tournament introduced in 2021 after Rivers Angels and Bayelsa Queens.
