The Executive Assistant to the governor of Delta State on New Media, Mr Felix Ofu, has said over 71 road projects have been initiated since the Sheriff Oborevwori-led government came to power.

Ofu told South-South PUNCH on Tuesday that the achievement of Governor Oborevwori in one year and two months in office is unprecedented.

He said, “For more than one year we have been in office, the government led by Sherrif Oborevwori had done so much in the state in terms of infrastructure and human capital development.

“I wonder why in some quarters, people are saying that so much money has come to the state, but nothing to show for it.

“It is not true, a lot have been done and more are still being done and I can tell you that over 71 projects have been initiated since this administration came to power.

“Governor Oborevwori had turned Delta into a construction site with 78 flyovers construction in Warri, Asaba-Ugheli dualization, and Ibusa bypass, among others projects.

“We run a transparent government because we have nothing to hide. If you have been following our activity it shows clearly that the governor means well for us and he is out to give Deltans a new lease of life.

Contrary to claims of embezzlement by the opposition, Ofu disclosed that the incumbent governor has been prudent by ensuring the state can adequately fund projects without taking loans.

He added, “I can tell that this government has not borrowed money to fund mega infrastructure projects, because Governor Oborevwori had efficiently blocked financial leakages, and saved billions of naira within one year and two months in office.

“This administration inherited a debt of N465 billion from its predecessor, but as at March this year, the government has paid N130 billion.

“If he inherited a debt of N465 billion and by March 2024, he has paid N130 billion, the debt will be paid in full before he leaves office.

“The governor, in his wisdom, has chosen to do this because he knows that for every debt that you accumulate, you are putting a chain on generation yet to come.

“When there is a surplus in other states, the politicians are quick to create sub-heads to siphon the funds, but Governor Oborevwori has continuously decided to save over N205 billion to use it for projects.”

He said that the over 71 road projects approved by Governor Oborevwori would connect cities and communities, as well as enhance the movement of agricultural produce.

On his part, the Executive Assistant to the governor on Media, Mr. Nobert Chiazor, stressed that the Oborevwori-led administration would set trailblazing achievements in infrastructure across the state.

He enthused, “You can tell that Governor Oborevwori wants to achieve great things in the state. That is why he approved a N78 billion project to be constructed by Julius Berger. It is worthy to note that such projects are only seen in the Federal Capital Territory.”

He promised that the government would strengthen synergy with media stakeholders to ensure adequate promotion of government programs and policies.
