The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has warned protesters not to carry out their planned demonstration on October 1 in the state.

The Command stated that arrangements have been made in advance to stop the protests.

They warned that the command was prepared to put an end to any kind of rebellion from the demonstrators.

This was contained in a statement by the command spokesperson, Timfon John.

Naija News reports that the planned protest tagged #FearlessInOctober1 is a continuation of the End Bad Governance protest, held in some states across the country from August 1 to 10.

In the statement, the Command disclosed that the State Commissioner of Police, Joseph Eribo, has stationed security operatives at key locations throughout the state.

This is to make sure that the protest doesn’t hold, and if it does, it shouldn’t turn into chaos,” the statement read.

The residents of the state were advised by the police to go out with their daily activities without worrying about being molested.

She said that the directive has placed relevant authorities in readiness to guarantee the safety of all.

She said, “As regards the rumoured protest, the truth is that the Commissioner of Police, Joseph Eribo, has made the necessary deployments to that effect and the command is making sure that by the grace of God, there is no protest in Akwa Ibom State and if at all there will be, it’s going to be a peaceful one, where the hoodlums will not have the opportunity to hijack and make it violent to disrupt the peace and comfort being enjoyed in the state.

“We are ready. We have tight security, and unlike the last protest, people should go about their normal businesses without fear of molestation because we have put in necessary security to ensure that the peace in the state is maintained.”
