Ogun State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Trade Union Congress, and the Joint Negotiation Committee have dissociated themselves from the planned protest over the alleged unremitted contributory pension fund of over N40 billion in the state.
The unions disclosed this on Thursday in a statement signed by the NLC Chairman, Hameed Ademola; TUC Chairman, Akeem Lasisi, and the JNC Chairman, Isa Olude.
The labour leaders averred that the threats through a news broadcast on the proposed industrial action on August 1 by the Campaign for Democratic and Workers Rights are not only condemnable but highly uncalled for in all ramifications.
The unions said they had not engaged any groups or individuals to agitate over any issue whatsoever on behalf of the groups, saying the organised labour in the state was not privy to the said broadcast by CDWR.
The labour unions said there had been robust engagements over time with the government, which had resulted in positive outcomes on the part of the government, adding that nothing could have warranted any threat of industrial action by the unions in the state.
The statement reads in part, “Organised Labour of Ogun State wishes to state categorically that, the leaderships of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Trade Union Congress and Joint Negotiating Council in Ogun State are not directly or remotely involved in the news.
“Organised Labour of Ogun State has been engaging the government through our usual channels of communication and the results are positive therefore, have no reason to issue any threat to the government on the above subject.
“Organised Labour of Ogun State believes threats/industrial action becomes necessary only when discussions and negotiations fail to achieve our aim. We equally disassociate from the lingering August 1 protest by groups yet unknown but call on different hierarchies of the government to involve these groups to dialogue in averting the protest.”
