The Ogun State Government has begun an intensive rehabilitation of its eight technical colleges with the aim of turning them into excellent vocational training centres.

The massive rehabilitation is also aimed at standardising technical and vocational education in the state while also equipping the students with industry-relevant skills through modern machinery and tools.

The Communication Officer, Mrs Simbo Olayinka, of the Ogun State Economic Transformation Project, a World Bank-supported initiative which is responsible for the funding of the upgrading of the technical colleges disclosed this in a statement on Monday.

Speaking while inspecting the ongoing rehabilitation works at the Government Science and Technical College, Ijebu Ode, the Commissioner for Finance who also serves as Chairman of the OGSTEP Project Steering Committee, Mr Dapo Okubadejo, commended the quality and pace of the work done so far.

Okubadejo said “The government’s focus is on developing both the state’s physical infrastructure and human capital across various education sub-sectors.

“And we are doing all of these by introducing modern equipment, smart classrooms, and standardization, our aim is to enable students to compete globally and provide a competent workforce for the industrial needs of the state.

“OGSTEP’s scope extends beyond education, with grants also supporting the agricultural and business-enabling environment sectors.”

The Project Coordinator, Mrs. Mosun Owo-Odusi said that the state government has invested in upscaling teachers, fostering partnerships with local industries to ensure students and teachers gain practical, hands-on experience.

Owo-Odusi added that the upgraded facilities would not only benefit students but also serve as a platform for industries to train and upgrade their workforce.
