President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, has refuted recent report that he was bedridden after his recent visit to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, at the Department of State Services (DSS) headquarters.

A statement issued, yesterday, by the Special Adviser (Media and Publicity) to Iwuanyanwu, Ben Osuagwu, said that the report on a social media platform is false and ridiculous, urging the public to disregard it. He, however, said that the President General of Ohanaeze had complained of ailment before visiting the IPOB leader.

The statement said: “My attention has been drawn to ridiculous information by one Obinna Akukwe, saying that the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, got sick after visiting Kanu in the DSS custody.

“I categorically say that the report has no iota of truth. It was just a coloured imagination by the writer to attract readership to his wall/platform. His report is one of the dangers of relying on social media without thorough investigation.” The statement urged journalists to always ascertain the truth before going to press.

“Any professional journalist will dig deep to ascertain the veracity of hearsay before going to the public, because he knows that his image is at stake. You don’t just rush to the public to make infantile headlines and scare people from believing your pen. That report deserves a seat in the bottomless pit.

“Iwuanyanwu wasn’t feeling well before his trip to Abuja. But because of the continued disturbing incarceration of Kanu, who is one of his sons, he decided to go to Abuja to see him not minding his health challenges coupled with other scheduled engagements.”

He advised the public to be mindful of what they read, stressing: “I want to simply advise that people should be wary of what they put out to the public, more so, when such misguided reports come from those who call themselves Pastors/Reverends. That is the reason I didn’t add Rev. to the originator of the falsehood.”
