Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has vowed that no level of intimidation or manipulation will derail his mandate at the election tribunal sitting in Benin.

Speaking through his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, on Friday, the governor condemned alleged attempts by the opposition to interfere with the tribunal process.

The governor stated, “I am deeply concerned and appalled by recent reports of attempts by the depleted opposition party to manipulate the ongoing case at the tribunal.

“These actions, which include witness intimidation, sponsorship of thugs, peddling of fake news, and a premature declaration of victory, are an affront to the very foundation of our justice system.

“The judiciary is the cornerstone of our democracy, and its integrity must be upheld at all costs. Any attempt to interfere with the impartial administration of justice in the ongoing tribunal case is not only unacceptable but also a grave threat to the rule of law and the well-being of our citizens.”

Okpebholo urged the relevant authorities, including the judiciary, law enforcement agencies, and other state actors, to thoroughly investigate these serious allegations and take swift and decisive action against those responsible.

He added, “The people of Edo State deserve a tribunal process that is fair, transparent, and accountable. I will not tolerate any actions that undermine the integrity of the tribunal.

“Edo people have given me a resounding mandate, and no amount of intimidation, falsehoods, media propaganda, or paid thugs can change God’s mandate for Edo people.”
