Nigeria’s Red Bull Belgrade striker is seeking solace in his creator after having successful surgery on his Achilles tendon in Finland on Tuesday.
The 28-year-old uploaded a picture on his social media handles on Wednesday, which showed him smiling broadly with two fingers in the air on his hospital bed, apparently unfazed by the setback, stating, “In the midst of your struggles, God is your constant companion. He whispers peace into your soul and gives you strength to face another day (Isaiah 26:3). God is the greatest.”
The club also announced the successful surgery in a release shortly after without stating when the player will be back playing.
“Peter Olanjinka was successfully operated on in Finland by a famous doctor after an Achilles tendon injury due to a blow he received during a match in Monaco,” read the release.
“Everything went well, and we are waiting for the postoperative period to pass in order to estimate the return time of Zvezda’s football player. We wish him a speedy recovery and return to the field!”
Olayinka sustained the injury during Red Star’s 5-1 defeat to AS Monaco on October 22nd in a UEFA Champions League encounter.
He is one of the club’s most consistent performers, having scored 13 goals in 42 matches since joining them in 2023, and has scored two goals and rendered as many assists in six matches this season.
Olayinka has received an outpouring of support from his Super Eagles teammates, including Victor Osimhen, Moses Simon, Taiwo Awoniyi, and Frank Onyeka, as well as former internationals Obafemi Martins, Odion Ighalo, and John Ogu.
