Oluwafemiayo eyes second Paralympics gold in Paris

Commonwealth Games Champion Folashade Oluwafemiayo says her next target is to win her second Paralympic gold medal at the upcoming Paris 2024 Paralympics, which hold from August 28 to September 8.

Oluwafemiayo (+86 kg) set a new world record of 165 kg at the 2024 World Para Powerlifting Championship in Tbilisi, Georgia, last June.

The four-time world champion told www.aclsports.com that her performance at the Para Powerlifting World Cup last March and World Championship last June was a major boost ahead of the 2024 Paralympics.

The multiple African champion said, “I will first give God the glory for the privilege of being alive and being among the team who will represent Nigeria at the Paris 2024 Paralympics. I am very happy, and I feel good lifting for my fatherland.”

“As the current record holder, I need your prayers because, with God, all things are possible.”.

“I will say a big thank you to Nigeria and the honourable Minister of Sport Development, Senator Joh Enoh. He did well by making us get used to the weather, and all the training equipment in Germany is very perfect.

Kafilat Almaruf (-73 kg) and Folashade Oluwafemiayo (+86 kg) are Nigerian lifters with the world record present at the Paris 2024 Paralympics.

Folashade Oluwafemiayo has been named the general captain of Team Nigeria para-athletes, while Kayode Alabi is the assistant captain.

Rio 2016 Paralympic gold medallist Lauritta Onye is the flagbearer.

Since debuting in 1992 in Barcelona, Nigeria has attended every edition of the Paralympics, winning 80 medals in total, consisting of 40 gold, 19 silver, and 21 bronze medals.
