The Ondo State Police Command on Wednesday arraigned a 30-year-old businessman, Oluwatimilehin Olorunfunmi, before an Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged assault and threat to life.

Olorunfunmi, whose address was not given, is facing three counts bordering on conspiracy, misdemeanour, assault and threat to life, preferred against him, by the police.

The prosecutor, ASP Zedekiah Orogbemi, told the court that the defendant and one other at large, conspired together and committed the alleged offences.

He said the incident occurred on April 26, 2024, at about 2:00p.m at Market Square, in the Okitipupa area of Ondo State.

Orogbemi said that the defendant assaulted the complainant, Mrs Abiodun Akinyemi, by slapping her over an undisclosed argument.

The prosecutor said the defendant also threatened to kill her.

According to Orogbemi, the offences committed contravened Sections 517, 351 and 86, of the Criminal Code, Cap.37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge against him.

Consequently, Chief Magistrate, Mr Philip Akinlosetu, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum.

Akinlosetu said the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and present evidence of two years of tax payment to the state government.

He adjourned the case to August 29, for further hearing.
