A democracy and good governance non-governmental organization, Yiaga Africa, has said politicians are inducing voters with rice, fertilizer, cassava and cash ahead of the November 16th Ondo State governorship election.

Yiaga Africa said this on Friday, during the signing of Peace Accord by different political parties and their candidates for the gubernatorial election.

In its pre-election report, Yiaga stated that its Long Term Observers recorded cases of voter inducement during campaign activities in Akure South, Ese-Odo, Ifedore, Irele, Ondo East, Ose, and Owo LGAs

Yiaga alleged that leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) distributed fertilizers, rice, cassava, and maize to community leaders tasked with distributing these items within their areas of influence.

The good governance advocate organization called on politicians to refrain from acts that would affect a free and fair election.

It said the safety of voters, election officials and all participants is paramount to upholding electoral process integrity during the Ondo election.

As the election approaches, tensions between political parties are escalating, with different sides trading accusations and warnings.

“The situation underscores the need for vigilance and peaceful conduct from all stakeholders involved. Security agencies should take proactive measures to mitigate these risks.

“Ensuring the safety of voters, election officials, and all other participants is paramount to upholding the integrity of the electoral process. Preventive measures must be prioritized to avert violence and ensure a peaceful election,” the report read.
